Anyone remember where they were when President Kennedy was assinated?  I remember watching Spanish lessons on t.v. with Senorita Barrera.  They interrupted the program to say he had been shot.

I was in the Howard Elementary School cafeteria in Alamo Heights when we were herded back into the classrooms, watching the news on TV.  24 hours earlier, the Kennedy motorcade drove right past our school as we all stood on the sidewalk.

6th Grade. Amarillo AFB Elementary School.  Just before lunch. A friend and I were walking to the cafeteria and wondering why a number of lady teachers were crying. Announcement made around 11AM or so that Kennedy had been shot. My friend and I looked at each other and wondered why anyone would want to shoot the fullback on the pop warner football team we were players on. Took a few minutes to figure out it was the President. We were relieved it wasn't Mike Kennedy and went on to lunch.

12 years olds...

Different priorities I guess.

It was (I think) the first of my many trips in life to an authority figure's office for behavior unbecoming.

Didn't understand why everyone there was crowded around the PA system, which had a radio built in. Don't remember hearing what was said, but someone there told me to return to the classroom, and got there as they were announcing the shooting. One of the few memories I have of Northwood E.
