After Mac, I earned a B.S. in Biology from the University of Notre Dame ('74). The next 4 years, 7 months, and 14 days (but, hey, who's counting?) I was a bombardier/navigator flying A-6 Intruder attack jets for the U.S. Navy. Was with Attack Squadron 196 recently made famous in the movie "Flight of the Intruder." In that movie, Willem Dafoe plays me--ha,ha! Finished up with 975 flight hours about 40% of which were nighttime and 265 carrier arrested landings (a.k.a. "traps"). Attended Texas A&M on the G.I. bill and earned a M.S. in entomology ('82). Then on to the University of California-Davis for a PhD in entomology ('87). While at UC-Davis, I was concurrently enrolled at UC-Berkeley for a MPH ('85). Returned to San Antonio in December 1986 and got a job as a medical entomology consultant for the U.S. Air Force in early 1987. Retired on April 8 of 2011.
Sara Kerr and I married December 22, 1985. She has a MAg and PhD from Texas A&M and is a Professor of Biology at University of the Incarnate Word. We collaborate on research investigating the ecology of leishmaniasis, a parasitic skin disease.
Our daughter, Julia, has an apartment in Brooklyn and is a broker in New York selling real estate for over $400.
Our son, Conan, is in San Francisco working for an Austin-based company called National Instruments. His region includes California, Hawaii, Tahoe, and Reno. He is always second in sales in the U.S. He and Phoebe, his wife, have beautiful home in San Francisco.
Since returning to San Antonio in the late 1980's we've had a succession of adopted dogs. The latest are Evie and Bear, German shepherds from a rescue group in Austin. Very, very sweet, but also young and very active. As a result of their racing around the back yard we don't have any grass left!
