Coker Elementary Posted Sunday, May 31, 2009 04:57 AM What a great place. Life was so much simpler then! My favorite teacher was Mrs. Kelley in 2nd grade! |

Coker Croakers Posted Sunday, June 7, 2009 03:56 PM Okay, I'm not proud of this moment, but I'll share it anyway. In either 4th, 5th, or 6th grade I was a spelling bee back-up. On the day of the school-wide competition, the person who was supposed to participate from our class was absent and I had to fill in. The facilitator came to my room and called for me to leave class and go to the room where the spelling bee was taking place. We lined up on the perimeter of the classroom. I was very nervous. When it came time for my turn, standing in front of all Coker spelling-bee participants, all the teachers, and God.....the word given me was 'Acorn'. I took my time and thought 'okay...this is a trick question', so I blurted out "a-k-o-r-n'. "I'm sorry, that is incorrect". I was returned to my classroom in less than 15 minutes and felt embarassed and humiliated! Jennifer Sonnen Zimmerle |

RE: Coker Elementary Posted Thursday, June 11, 2009 12:58 PM I was in Mrs. Kelly's second grade class as well......boy, we go way back. And here we are, still in San Antonio. Many fond memories of Coker. MY FAVORITE was Mrs. Sosa's sixth grade class and the spanish we began learning in that class. I went on to get my bilingual certificate when I got my teaching certificate. Debbie (Turner) Miller |

RE: Coker Elementary Posted Friday, February 10, 2012 10:45 AM O.K. Harris, Principal of Coker Elementary School from 1962 to 1973, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2012. I have fond memories of Mr. Harris during our time at Coker. My favorite story occurred during Safety Patrol at the end of school one day. Ted Alexander, myself, and I don't recall who else that day were charged with taking down the flags from the flagpole. Ted thought it would be a great idea to see how fast they could come down the flagpole. They came down faster than anticipated & just at the time Mr. Harris happened to look out the window. He opened the window & hollered "whats going on out there!" Ted's great idea all of a sudden didn't seem so great!

RE: Coker Elementary Posted Monday, September 3, 2012 04:15 PM John_Sandi_Echterhoff.jpg It's been a long time since I have seen your faces. Glad to know a few of us Coker's are doing well. I married Sandi Langelier who also went to Coker. We re-met and married two months after our 40 year reunion (as was yours) in the Summer of 2010. Many name and faces come to mind when I look at the Mac 1970 yearbook. Thanks Butch for letting Sandra and I on as guests. Take Care, John Echterhoff, Jr. |
