Ken Fischer

Ken Fischer passed away February 5, 2021 after a tough 3 ½ year fight with neuroendocrine cancer of the lung. He is survived by his companion and wife of 39 years, Jackie Fischer. Additionally, Ken is survived by his sister Nancy and husband Don; nephew Jeff and wife Mandy and their children Kinley and Cade; and nephew Greg and wife Megan and their children Caelub and Kyla.

After graduating from MacArthur High School in 1970 he studied at the University of Texas (UT) in Austin, graduating with a degree in business. He worked at UT for 8 years and then entered the oil and gas industry. He worked for Cinco Drilling and South Texas Drilling in a supervisory position and then retired after 22 years’ service as Vice President of the International Association of Drilling Contractors. Ken worked worldwide with government oil ministers.

Ken’s first international travel was at age 17 as a foreign exchange student and he eventually visited 54 countries in his lifetime. When not traveling, Ken lived in Houston and Gonzales Texas until his retirement when he moved to his small ranch in Gonzales. He loved his horses and raising livestock. He enjoyed riding horses and fly fishing in Wyoming. After retiring he and Jackie did volunteer cleanup work with his Bobcat after natural disasters in Wimberly, Canton and Rockport, Texas.

Ken’s body has been donated to UT Medical School in Houston. Burial and services will occur on a date to be determined in future months. Donations may be made to the Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
