I started dating Guy Stubbs ( class of 1968) shortly after graduation. We've now been married over 37 yrs.
I attended SAC from 70-71.I then transfered to Lamar University in Beaumont because a (it was a great teaching school) or b (that was where Guy was going) you choose. After he graduated we came back to San Antonio and I graduated from Incarnate Word. I started teaching the week of Thanksgiving 1974. I think I was hired because I went straight from student teaching and there were colored handprints on my stomach from the kids patting it to get my attention. Anyway I taught until may '79 when I got my real estate license working until '96. Many of those years I was the top agent in the office teaching others how to sell, overcome problems etc. Much of it was funny...like the client I was showing houses to after a really hard freeze. She was pointing at this frozen plant asking "What is that" ? I replied it was Yucca. She said I know its yuck(a) but what is it?
We moved to the Great Northwest Ridgecreek Subdivision in 1980. In 1988 I worked hard with the community and the city of San Antonio who wanted to annex our subdivision of 5,000 homes and 15,000+ people. I was asked to fill in for a boardmember who had moved and I accepted. At the time I was the only woman negotiating with the city to provide services with annexation rather than annex an area and not provide survices for 1 or more years to tax paying citizens. Now that is SOP. We also volunteered to be the test area for recycling, a service we all now take for granted. The Board worked closely with the city, police and fire on numerous projects. We were able to acquire a city library and park ,The Great Northwest Library and Cathedral Park, in our subdivision . We had linear parks years before the city started them. My proudest accomplishment is establishing scholarships for our residents. Instead of being based on gradepoint averages these scholarships are based on community service. Reading the applications I have been truly amazed at what our youth acomplish.
Guy and I often travel since he is now partially retired supposedly working 3 days a week but he works much more. This year we went on a Carribean Cruise with friends and are often found fishing at North Padre island. Guy is the greatest husband. I have Fibromyalgia and 3 bulging discs in my back so I am in chronic pain. He helps me do whatever I can to get around and participate in things. I also now have Pulmonary Arterial Hypertenion (HPA) and am on oxygen 24 hrs a day. I do as much as I can knowing he's there to pick up the slack.
